Burning Memory

From the ashes of Aurora Mortis comes Burning Memory. Impressionistic reflections on a man’s life in the final moments before complete oblivion. Flashes of his love appear before him, but his deteriorating mind burns the final fragments, plunging him into golden dreams as his life washes away forever.

This short film by Ash Johann is adapted from his previous film, Aurora Mortis, which was never released due to licencing issues. The title is inspired by It’s Just A Burning Memory from The Caretaker’s Everywhere At The End Of Time, which deals with the several stages of dementia. Just like with that album, the director wanted to capture memory and loss, only through imagery instead of music and in a much shorter amount of time (though a 6.5 hour long accompaniment film to the album would make for an interesting project).
