5th October 2024. Trekking at dawn from Faversham, back down Faversham Creek to reach the coast in time for sunrise – and seeing the sun appropriately rise above the soon to be on line massive solar farm, still in construction at Cleve Hill. The first part of the walk beside remote-feeling reclaimed marsh lands, with little company but small groups of cows (and bulls) grazing along the banks of the Swale. But then reaching Seasalter, and a return to human habitation. Oyster hunters on the mudflats. Beach side homes and huts, and the long promenade into Whitstable, with its active seafront and harbour. Then the long stretch of Tankerton Beach, running at the foot of the cliffs beneath the town, and miles of compartmentalised beach. Tankerton becomes Swalecliffe, around the outcrop of Long Rock. The gentle curve round to Hampton, and beyond that the Western Esplenade of seaside holiday town, Herne Bay. 15 miles.
