21st January 2023. Walking along the quiet backwaters of Hamford Water National Reserve. Unfortunately then having to take a large detour around farmland offering no easy access to the seawall, with plenty of threatening signs against trespass. Finally back to the coast, with views across the water on one side to the Naze and its tower, and on the other to the Port of Felixstowe. Going past Dovercourt, with its iconic twin lighthouses, round the looming sentinel of Beacon Hill, into Harwich. And across the water, where the rivers Stour and Orwell reach the North Sea, at last sits Suffolk. Unfortunately, it being winter, the ferry across is closed. So instead of a quick trip across, it will take at least four more days of walking round. 19 miles.
