British Coast – Stage 033 – Greenhithe to Gravesend

19th January 2024. Slowly continuing down the estuary, round the Broadness peninsula, on which towers the Swanscombe pylon, mirrored on the other side of the river. Access closed to the tip of Broadness, because of the radar and lighthouse. The views along this stretch are dominated by Tilbury on the north bank, its factories, docks and ferry terminal. This south bank was once more active. But little now remains of the Northfleet harbour, and while Gravesend, with its historic piers, is still connected to Tilbury – it is across the water where all the trade has been concentrated. 8 miles.
